Wine Stain Tears

Did the tipsiness last night end up leaving you in tears as you watched dark red misery soak into your home's carpets?

Then you've come to the right place!

While wine stains are notoriously hard to clean, there are some steps you can take to prevent or lessen the damage they can cause on your carpets.

Read on below to check out Jeff's best tips on minimizing red stains on your carpet.

You heard us right, this not only works for wine, but other colored stains such as Kool-Aid!

For the best results, you will need the following items you can find around your house.
  • Towel (white works best)
  • Plain water
  • Wetvac (recommended)

Below we will also list some additional items that may help you keep your carpet stain free between professional carpet cleanings.

  1. As with any stain, the faster you act, the better result you will get in cleaning up the stain.
  2. Using towel or wetvac, remove as much of the initial liquid spill as soon as possible.  Do not rub towel into stain, gently pat with dry white towel to absorb as much as possible.  If available, use a wetvac to vacuum as much of extra liquid out as possible.
  3. If you don't have a wetvac, use a damp towel to rinse remaining liquid from carpet fibers as much as possible.  Again, pat the stained area and be careful not to rub it or spread the stain further.
  4. If you have a wetvac available, gently mist water onto the stain to help rinse it, and use the wetvac to vacuum as much of the water and stain as possible.  This helps to rinse out staining substances that haven't yet soaked into the carpet fibers.
  5. Use a dry clean towel to gently pat the area as dry as possible, taking care not to spread the stain further.
  6. If available, use a fan to circulate air over the carpeted area to dry up the stain, do not use heat!  Another critical thing to remember is not to use chemicals on the stain as you could set it, or even bleach the carpet around it making it impossible to completely remove the stain even for our professional technicians.

For those of you that were able to catch this quickly and remove the stain before it could set in, congratulations you've saved your carpet.

For those of you who have done this but have a remaining stain, we strongly encourage you to call a professional carpet cleaning service like JT's Carpet Cleaning to perform a red dye transfer stain cleaning on your carpet.  This process uses specific chemicals to remove the dyed materials from your carpet.

In many cases, this is your best bet for getting completely rid of the stain.

While some stains will not come out 100%, this process is very successful in most cases and can greatly reduce the visible appearance of dye stains in the carpet.

To help prevent this headache in the future, we recommend having your carpets treated with a stain guard like the one offered by JT's Carpet Cleaning.

This can prevent future spills from sinking in before you're able to have them removed and can save costly cleaning or carpet replacements.
