Carpet Care in Kansas City
Hello Kansas City!

Jeff Ring of JT's Carpet Cleaning again, ready to offer some helpful advice for your carpet's care.

Carpet Warranties

Did you know that most carpet warranties require regular professional cleaning by a company like JT's Carpet Cleaning?

Our hot water extraction system is one of the best ways to remove dirt and soil from carpets and leave them looking new.

An added benefit of regularly cleaning your home's carpets is a longer life.

When dirty carpets are walked on, the soil wears against the carpet fibers causing them to break apart, fray, or even fade in some cases.

Professional cleanings remove this dirt and soil that would otherwise cause premature wear and leave the carpet looking rejuvenated.

Our system also uses soft water to rinse and remove cleaning solution and dirt from the fibers of your carpet so when it dries it is soft again so you can enjoy walking on it.

Stain Guarding
This is a must have service if you have kids or pets, or like myself you're just a little clumsy at times.

Stain guarding helps keep stains from sinking into the carpet fibers to buy time until a professional like one of my company's technicians can get there to remove it.

The stain may still be visible, but is easier to remove if you've previously had stain guarding applied.

We offer carpet stain guarding applications at a reasonable price and it's a small cost to be comfortable knowing your home is protected from unevitable spills.

Many of our customers with families prefer this option because it reduces the chance of spills from fruit juice and red wine from setting into the carpet before removal.

If you'd like to learn more about the stain guarding process and get a free cost estimate, give us a call or request a free quote from our carpet cleaning service page.
Move In/Move Out Cleaning
This is a bonus blog post folks, we're offering some helpful tips on move in and out cleaning.

Those of you looking to get your maximum deposit back during a move, this is a good place to start.

Read on for some helpful tips and reminders of overlooked areas.
Stove Cleaning
Sure, everyone wipes down the stove top when moving, that should do the trick right?

Wrong.  Your landlord will notice the areas that weren't cleaned and will charge it to your deposit.

Some of the common things we've seen in these cases are ovens not cleaned, the area under the burners being left full of debris, even caked on grease and soil on the sides and back of the stove.

Each type of stove top has different areas that come apart for cleaning, but in general there will be an area for drip pans on electric stove tops and the top plate often lifts up for cleaning.

Gas stove tops can present new challenges because the tops are sometimes sealed.

We often see people overlooking the sides and oven cleaning on these models.

What about under the stove?

Don't fret, sometimes cleaning there is as easy as getting out the vacuum and pulling out the warming drawer below the oven.

Most of these drawers are removable and give you access to the floor under the stove.

If your oven has a self cleaning system, its a good idea to learn how it works and use it following the instruction manual.

Word of warning, self cleaning ovens often create a bit of smoke as they use intense heat to clean themselves.

You may also need to remove the oven racks first as some have coatings that can't handle the extra heat.  Consult your manual for proper safety when cleaning or moving your stove top.

Always follow common sense safety procedures and consult your manual for specifics.

Refrigerator Cleaning
How many times have you walked past your refrigerator and thought "I should wipe the grease off the side."  Did you ever do it?

The cleaners called in when you move out will definitely be looking for this.

We've also seen cases where the inside of the refrigerator had mold growing in some areas like bottom drawers.

While these things are easy to overlook when you're rushing to pack and move boxes, they can have a big impact on whether you see any of your deposit back.

We also recommend checking out the top of the fridge as these are a magnet for dust and grime, especially if you have grease on many areas of your kitchen surfaces from cooking splatters.

Nearly any commercial kitchen cleaner recommended for kitchens is safe to use on these things, we love the power of vinegar ourselves.

Vinegar is cheap and cuts through grease and grime like there is no tomorrow.

This household favorite is also good at removing cigarette smoke residue from surfaces like refrigerator doors and bathroom fixtures.

With any cleaning solutions, do not mix vinegar with any other chemicals and always check the manual of your appliances.

Bathrooms
Did you clean the bathroom?

Did you check in the cabinet under the sink?

What about the shower head?

What about the bottom of the toilet bowl and the sides and back of the toilet?

These are all things you will get charged a cleaning for in most rental units.

While most people clean the toilet bowl when they clean the bathroom, many overlook these areas and are then baffled by the cleaning fees they see eat up their deposit.

If you're experiencing issues with hard water stains on the throne, there are great options out there to remove this type of buildup.

Look for cleaners specifically made for lime, calcium, rust, and hard water deposit buildup.

As with any chemicals, use only as directed in the labels and do not mix cleaning products as dangerous gasses may result.

Windows
Many of us have curtains or blinds covering the windows to block the scorching summer heat, or trap in the warm air during winter.

This is great, except sometimes we forget about the dirty windows we're about to leave behind.

And the deposit left behind that could lead to.

It's also a good idea to check your home's mirrors if they are permanently installed to make sure they are clean also.

While we recommend a quality microfiber cloth or wash handle, steam can also be a great way to clean up those windows and mirrors.

One of our favorite tools for cleanups like this for a residential user is the McCullochMC1275

We've attached a link to this product below if you'd like to pick up one of your own!

This affordably priced little gadget creates continuous steam for nearly an hour and is able to blast away the grime from your stovetop, the spots on your mirrors and windows, and even sanitize door knobs and may frequently touched surfaces.

Our high powered equipment can obviously handle bigger messes, but this little steamer is great for the homeowner for those small cleanup jobs and carrys the added benefit of chemical free cleaning.

The available steam mop is also great for reducing surface dirt on your home's carpets and hard surface floors, though regular hot water extraction cleaning is the best way to get those floors truly clean.

The steam mop can be handy for quick cleanups between professional cleaning visits.

One word of caution, high heat can set in stains that would otherwise be removed so be mindful of this when steaming over areas with heavy soil or significant staining.

Thanks from JT's Carpet Cleaning
If you've read this far, then I truly commend you as I can get a little long winded sometimes.  I hope these tips help you save money and get more of your deposit back.

If you're currently working on moving out and don't have a plan for getting the unit cleaned up, we do offer a move-in/move-out cleaning package.
